UCF Art History Professor Dr. Margaret Zaho Presents: Art of the Ancient Near East

Legacy Pointe at UCF Auditorium

March 11 | 3:30 pm

UCF Art History Professor Dr. Margaret Zaho presents Art of the Ancient Near East, an engaging look at the cultures, symbols, and artistic traditions that shaped some of the world’s earliest civilizations. The Ancient Near East comprises the art and ancient civilizations in and around Mesopotamia (the land between the rivers). It is from this region, associated with the area described as the Fertile Crescent, that we find our first evidence of stone settlements, writing, and the first system of law and literary epics. The art from the area is comprised of a variety of artistic achievements in monumental architecture, narrative relief sculpture, brightly colored gates, cylinder seals, and even mythical beasts. Join us for a fascinating exploration of how these ancient works continue to influence art and history today.
