University Retirement Community Receives $7-Million Gift

Legacy Pointe at UCF, a metro Orlando retirement community affiliated with the University of Central Florida, has received a transformational charitable donation. An anonymous donor has given more than $7-million to help brighten the lives of seniors for generations to come.

Legacy Pointe at UCF has used the donation to purchase nearly 16-acres of additional land bordering the north side of its current property. Now that its border has expanded, the Legacy Pointe at UCF Board of Directors is considering a strategic plan to determine the best ways to continue to provide state-of-the-art retirement services for current and future residents.

“We’re so thankful for the impact this gift is making. It is helping us to live out our mission to brighten lives through lifelong enrichment in partnership with the University of Central Florida,” said Legacy Pointe at UCF Executive Director David A. Kremer. “Our donor has ensured we will continue to be the premier university retirement community for generations to come. University retirement communities are growing in popularity as today’s seniors want to remain active and take part in life-long learning. Demand has been high, and we only have a few units still available.”

Created by the leadership of UCF, the retirement community has affiliation agreements with each of the university’s colleges. This partnership allows Legacy Pointe at UCF residents to monitor classes, enjoy the campus library, and take advantage of lectures, musical and artistic performances. Residents get student ID cards and are automatically members of the popular Learning Institute for Elders (LIFE) at UCF program. In addition, a UCF charter bus provides transportation. Many residents also enjoy going to UCF for athletic events and taking part in exciting UCF research projects.

The UCF Rosen College of Hospitality Management, the number one hospitality college in the nation, is developing training for all Legacy Pointe at UCF employees using the latest in AI technology.

UCF nursing and medical students do clinical rotations in the community while other students work at Legacy Pointe at UCF or take part in internship programs.

Legacy Pointe at UCF is home to about 360 seniors today. It offers independent living, assisted living, memory support and skilled nursing near the main campus of UCF. The community features 32 independent living villa homes, 140 independent living apartments ranging from one to three-bedrooms, 48 assisted living apartments, 32 memory support units and a 48-bed skilled nursing facility.
